ABOUT

Brandon K Smith (b. 1994) (he/him) is a composer and arranger based in Atlanta, Georgia. In November 2021, he was selected as the 2022 commissioned composer for the Georgia Music Teachers Association, where he presented Time and Memory, a suite for flute and harp at the association’s annual conference. He has been a featured composer at the National Flute Association conference twice, in 2023 for the aforementioned suite Time and Memory and in 2025 for Trio in A Major commissioned by Trio Village.  He has also received commissions from acclaimed ensembles such as the Urban Youth Harp Ensemble, Coro Vocati, Memoduo, the Magnolia Ensemble, and Libertalia Philharmonic. He received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in composition at the Georgia State University School of Music, where he studied with Dr. Marc LeMay and Dr. Hannalisa Stefansson. His music has often been described as “lyrical,” “emotional,” and “evocative.”

Brandon is also an avid performer, teacher, and music director in the Atlanta area. In 2019 he founded Leading Tone, Georgia State University’s first chamber choir and he currently serves as the group’s artistic director and primary vocal arranger. Performing credits include concerts with Eric Whitacre, Caroline Shaw, and Andrea Bocelli, as well as with acclaimed ensembles Georgia State University Singers and the University of Pittsburgh Men’s Glee Club. Brandon is also a passionate teacher, and currently teaches piano and voice lessons with Play More Music in Atlanta. He currently serves as the director of music ministries at Eastminster Presbyterian Church and on the advisory board of the Peach State Opera. He has also written articles that have been featured in the periodical The Collective. Upcoming projects include an original chamber opera and an album of original art songs.
